Welcome to our Meet the Winemaker series.

We’d like to e-introduce you to a few of the winemakers that Vegan Wines has partnered with because they are so close to the heart of our mission of bringing you exceptional, naturally vegan wines!

We’re especially excited to introduce you to Natalia Poblete Saez and Maria Jose Ortuzar Alessandri of Moretta Wines in Chile. We spoke with them via Zoom last week. Check out the video here!

Meet more winemakers! Check out our Zoom series in Vegan Wines Events!

Natalia is a winemaker agronomist who studied at the Catholic University of Chile. She participated in her first harvest in 2007 at the Cousiño de Macul vineyard in Buin. Maria is an agronomist enologist engineer who also studied at the Catholic University of Chile, and in 2007, she began working at Don Melchor of Concha y Toro.

Vegan Wines visited the vineyard where Moretta Wines harvests the grapes for their amazing wines! These two women couldn’t make it that day due to other commitments, but the vineyards’ owners welcomed us with open arms. They gave us a tour of their land and shared so much information about the soil and the grapes as well as stories that dated back generations.

They also told us the story of how Natalia and Maria stood by the owners, backing them up and buying their grapes anyway after a wildfire in Chile in 2017. The fires in Chile weren’t that close, but many thought the smell would destroy the grape harvest.

In actuality, it enhanced that harvest, so with faith, hard work, and loyalty, these ladies made one of their best vintages to date – the Ceniciento Cabernet Sauvignon!

Try these Chilean wines for yourself! We’ve got two bottles by Moretta Wines in our shop right now!

I was supposed to be on a trip to Chile right now and was scheduled to meet these two winemakers in Santiago in two days, but due to COVID-19, I’m not sure when that will happen. I’m so glad that Natalia, Maria, and I got to meet via our Zoom Meet the Winemaker Series last week! We hope you’ll join us for more of these chats in the future!

There are many reasons Vegan Wines creates partnerships with winemakers besides their amazing, naturally vegan wines. Veganism is not just what we eat, but who we are and how we care for the earth and other human beings. We hope that our ethics will become part of the greater wine industry’s movement toward transparency.
